BOOKS I’VE WRITTEN
REVIEW:
As a marketing consultant and coach I find that I am most effective when I can get into the mind of the customer. Interestingly enough there are very few resources to do so. Even focus groups often give us false perspectives and tainted conclusions. For this reason I have decided to keep this book NOT in my large library in my living room but rather in my home office right next to my desk. It is sitting next the classics that I often refer to for ideas and inspiration to help with my most difficult client challenges like my Dale Carnegie books, Harry Beckwith, Seth Godin, Morrie Schectman and Marshall Goldsmith.
If you are business consultant, ad agency exec, sales coach, or even a marketing executive with an organization I guarantee you will find this book a valuable reference resource. I strongly recommend you pick it up and add it to your library.

You know those talk shows where you have two guests talking about an issue coming at it from different sides? Well, this book does that for branding and it is very successful at it.
The two authors tackle the questions from two different perspectives: Miletsky represents the agency side of the equation and Smith comes in as a former CMO for Washington Mutual (the corporate brand side of the equation). According to the authors, they didn’t communicate during the writing process: I actually believe this because you can see how their points of view sometimes coincide and sometimes diverge (as it happens in real life).
Whether you are developing a new brand or rebuilding an old one, no matter how big or small your company, if you work for an agency or as part of the brand team in a company, you can benefit from reading the two sides of these Perspectives on Branding.

This is great book in that it encompases an entire spectrum of topics ranging from the initial hiring process, building the trust after coming on board, celebrating your employees and how to manage through tough times. But the most important part of this book is that it shows very clearly both a manager’s point of view along with the employee’s point of view on all of these very crucial topics. Extremely insightful and well done. Highly recommend!

As a seasoned professional in many different levels of negotiations and of products sales what I enjoyed the most is that this book is written simple enough that I could share this with my new salesman, just getting started or with a season pro with more details. They give key time management perspectives within a proven sales approach!
It is understood that the best way to be informed is to hear both sides of a conversation. James and Marvin share this perspective very clearly; a perspective not seen before. KUDOS!
